Eid-el-Fitr: Yobe government declares total ban on vehicles without number plates

The Yobe State Government has declared a total ban on vehicles without number plates or with covered plates, warning that defaulters will not be allowed to operate on the roads during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana issued the directive on Monday during an expanded security meeting with heads of security agencies at the Government House in Damaturu.
Representing Governor Mai Mala Buni, who is observing spiritual rites in Saudi Arabia, Gubana ordered security forces to maintain visibility across all 17 local government areas and intensify patrols along border communities.
He cited recent attacks by non-state actors in the region, urging operatives to adopt proactive measures and collaborate with local vigilantes and hunters to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the festive period.
“We must leave no stone unturned. Security agencies should activate all protocols to guarantee a peaceful celebration,” Gubana said.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
Speaking to journalists, Police Commissioner Emmanuel Ado, confirmed that the ban on unregistered vehicles would be strictly enforced by the police and FRSC.
He described the practice as a major enabler of security breaches.
Ado stated that security agencies had conducted vulnerability assessments and reviewed recent incidents in neighbouring states to strengthen response strategies.
He assured residents of the state's relative calm but emphasised that personnel deployments would be enhanced to ensure a hitch-free Sallah.
