Gov. Makinde approves ₦10,000 transport allowance to ease fuel price burden on wokers

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved a ₦10,000 monthly transportation allowance for workers in the state to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices.

The decision comes amid a sharp increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, which now sells between ₦1,320 and ₦1,330 per litre across the state.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Oyo State, Kayode Martins, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Ibadan on Monday.

According to the statement, the allowance was approved following a formal request by the NLC as part of efforts to mitigate the rising cost of living.

“Following the intervention and formal request made by the State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) earlier this morning, the state government has approved a ₦10,000 transportation allowance for all workers in the state,” the statement read.

The allowance is expected to take effect from April 2026 and is aimed at providing relief to workers facing increased transportation costs due to current economic challenges.

The NLC noted that the move is a direct outcome of sustained advocacy by the union to support workers amid worsening financial pressures.

Further details on the implementation of the allowance are expected to be announced by the state government in due course.
