Mutfwang addresses residents from armoured vehicle, imposes curfew after Plateau attack
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has assured residents of justice following a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, while announcing a 48-hour curfew in the area.
The governor made the declaration on Monday during a visit to the scene of the Sunday night attack, which occurred on March 29, 2026, and left several people dead and others injured.
In a video circulating online, Mutfwang was seen standing atop a bulletproof armoured vehicle as he addressed agitated youths, appealing for calm and urging residents not to resort to violence.
Describing the incident as tragic, he noted that Angwan Rukuba is a diverse community with residents from various ethnic backgrounds, stressing that the loss was collective.
“This is a painful thing for all of us. Angwan Rukuba is a community that harbours every ethnic nationality in Plateau. Therefore, this is a pain to all of us,” he said.
He pleaded with residents to allow security agencies to handle the situation, assuring them that efforts were underway to apprehend those responsible.
Mutfwang also pledged that the state government would cover medical expenses for injured victims and organise a befitting burial for those who lost their lives.
He further disclosed that Bola Tinubu had been briefed on the incident, adding that security operations had been intensified to restore calm and ensure justice.
The attack has heightened tensions in the area, with authorities deploying additional security personnel to prevent further escalation.
