Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, others meet in Abuja as INEC derecognises ADC leadership
Top opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Peter Obi, have converged in Abuja amid the leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC)
The high-level meeting, holding at the Yar’Adua Centre, also has in attendance the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, alongside other prominent political figures.
Those present include former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke, and former Edo State Governor John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.
The gathering comes a day after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced it would no longer recognise the current leadership of the ADC, including David Mark and the party’s National Secretary, pending the resolution of ongoing legal disputes.
INEC also stated that it would not monitor the party’s planned national convention scheduled for April 14, maintaining a neutral stance until the courts determine the legitimate leadership.
According to INEC National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna, the commission will not engage with any faction of the party or recognise communications relating to its affairs until the leadership tussle is resolved.
The meeting is expected to address the implications of INEC’s decision and chart a path forward for the opposition party amid the deepening internal crisis.
