Story by Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Yobe State Government has rebranded the messenger cadre to “Office Assistants” in a move aimed at restoring dignity to the position and integrating them more formally into the civil service structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The change was announced during a two-day sensitisation workshop in Damaturu on Friday, where officials stressed that the reform was designed to elevate the status of the workers and align their roles with modern governance demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Shehu, explained that the initiative goes beyond a name change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said it represents a commitment to recognising the contributions of the cadre and ensuring they are bound by the same professional standards as other civil servants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “This reform is about respect, responsibility, and relevance. Workers would now be addressed as Office Assistants and would be expected to operate with improved confidentiality and efficiency,” said Shehu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The training, according to Alhaji Ibrahim Bulama Yusuf, Focal Person on Training and Succession Planning, was not a routine exercise but part of a deliberate effort to enforce discipline and enhance productivity across all levels of the civil service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He reminded participants that they are subject to the same Public Service Rules as every other employee and urged them to embrace the reform as an opportunity for professional growth.<\/p>\n\n
