{"id":1768,"date":"2026-03-22T15:54:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-22T15:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/neptuneprime.com.ng\/old\/?p=1768"},"modified":"2026-03-22T15:54:19","modified_gmt":"2026-03-22T15:54:19","slug":"iran-threatens-to-shut-strait-of-hormuz-if-u-s-attacks-power-plants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neptuneprime.com.ng\/old\/2026\/03\/22\/iran-threatens-to-shut-strait-of-hormuz-if-u-s-attacks-power-plants\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran threatens to shut Strait of Hormuz if U.S. attacks power plants"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br>Iran\u2019s military has threatened to completely shut down the strategic Strait of Hormuz if US President Donald Trump acts on threats to target the country\u2019s power plants.<br><br>Trump has given Iran 48 hours to reopen the strait, which has been effectively closed since the start of the war sparked on February 28 by US-Israeli bombardment of Iran.<br><br>The war has since spread across the Middle East, with Iran responding with drone and missile attacks on Israel and US interests in the region.<br><br>\u201cIf the United States\u2019 threats regarding Iran\u2019s power plants are carried out\u2026 the Strait of Hormuz will be completely closed, and it will not be reopened until our destroyed power plants are rebuilt,\u201d the military\u2019s operational command Khatam Al-Anbiya said in a statement carried by state TV.<br><br>The military said it would also strike Israel\u2019s \u201cpower plants, energy, and information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure\u201d, along with power plants in regional countries hosting US bases and companies with US shareholders.<br><br>It added that the measures will be taken \u201cto defend our country and the interests of our nation.\u201d Traffic through the vital strait\u2014through which 20 per cent of the world\u2019s crude oil and liquefied natural gas normally passes\u2014has been brought to a near standstill since the start of the war.<br><br>A relatively small number of vessels have been able to transit it\u2014around five per cent of its pre-war volume, according to analytics firm Kpler.<br><br>Iranian forces have attacked multiple vessels, saying they failed to heed \u201cwarnings\u201d against transiting the waterway.<br><br>In recent days, Iran has allowed some vessels from countries it considers friendly to pass, while warning it would block ships from countries it says have joined the \u201caggression\u201d against it.<br><br>Iran\u2019s parliament is mulling imposing tolls on shipping through the strait, with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf saying maritime traffic would \u201cnot return to its pre-war status.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n    <div class=\"xs_social_share_widget xs_share_url after_content \t\tmain_content  wslu-style-1 wslu-share-box-shaped wslu-fill-colored wslu-none wslu-share-horizontal wslu-theme-font-no wslu-main_content\">\n\n\t\t\n        <ul>\n\t\t\t        <\/ul>\n    <\/div> \n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Iran\u2019s military has threatened to completely shut down the strategic Strait of Hormuz if US President Donald Trump acts on threats to target the country\u2019s power plants.
