{"id":2297,"date":"2026-04-02T19:51:01","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T19:51:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/neptuneprime.com.ng\/old\/?p=2297"},"modified":"2026-04-02T19:51:02","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T19:51:02","slug":"jos-killings-tinubu-orders-deployment-of-5000-ai-powered-cctv-cameras","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neptuneprime.com.ng\/old\/2026\/04\/02\/jos-killings-tinubu-orders-deployment-of-5000-ai-powered-cctv-cameras\/","title":{"rendered":"Jos Killings: Tinubu orders deployment of 5,000 AI-Powered CCTV Cameras"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the installation of over 5,000 surveillance cameras in Plateau State following the recent killings in Jos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tinubu gave the directive during a town hall meeting with political and traditional leaders in Jos, days after the Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba that left more than 27 people dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Honourable Minister for Communication is here to give you assurance that we are going to install immediately a network of cameras that will help law enforcement agencies identify troublemakers instantly\u2014over 5,000 of them,\u201d Tinubu said, as he invited Bosun Tijani to elaborate on the plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President acknowledged that no amount of compensation could replace the lives lost but assured victims of government support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also directed security chiefs, including the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff, to ensure that those responsible for the attack are apprehended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou must unearth and find the killers. I\u2019m glad the IGP is here. I\u2019m glad the Chief of Defence Staff is here too. I\u2019m glad the Minister of Defence is here,\u201d Tinubu stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the President announced plans to set up a committee to assess damages and recommend compensation for affected families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cImmediately we return to Abuja, the committee will include the governor and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs. Let\u2019s take a proper assessment of the victims. We cannot replace human lives, but whatever we can do to provide some comfort, we will,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tinubu also expressed sympathy for victims of the attack, including a grieving mother identified as Rhoda, who lost her son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at the meeting, Tijani said the surveillance system would be powered by artificial intelligence and deployed across Plateau State, beginning with Jos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, the initiative will enable real-time monitoring and quicker response to security threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will work with the governor to strengthen digital infrastructure. On top of that, we will deploy a network of AI-enabled cameras across the state, starting with Jos,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tijani emphasised that the plan is practical, noting that similar security systems are already operational in states such as Lagos and Enugu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt breaks my heart that this is still happening after so many years.
