Osimhen Napoli’s highest paid footballer in history

Osimhen Napoli’s highest paid footballer in history

Nigerian international and SSC Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has become the highest paid footballer in the club’s history after extending his contract till 2026.

Osimhen was instrumental to Napoli’s success last season leading the club to their first Serie A title in 33 years and he was the club’s highest goal scorer, scoring 28 times in the league.

He was pivotal to the club’s qualification to the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League last season.

The 2022/23 season unarguably was a good season for Osimhen. He was awarded as Serie A Best Striker for the season, he was voted as the Player of the Month in January 2023 and his goal against AS Roma in the 17th minute on Sunday, 29 January was voted as the Goal of the Month for January 2023.

All these remarkable achievements in the last season earned him a contract extension where he was valued at €150 million.

That valuation could have increased if Al Hilal met Napoli’s price tag of €200 million few weeks back when all eyes were on Napoli to give out the 24-year-old to the Saudi Arabian club but it didn’t come through.

His contract extension also means increased in pay as they tripled his annual salary from the current €3 million to €10 million.

To this, his current wage makes him the highest paid player ever in the history of the club that was once home to football legend Diego Maradona and others like Gonzalo Higuain, Edinson Cavani, Marek Hamsik, Dries Mertens among others.
