The 6 pm train service from Abuja to Kaduna on Tuesday 26-Nov-2019 broke down at about 100meters to its terminal, forcing hundreds of passengers to trek to the destination station, this paper gathered.
Our correspondent reports that the passengers who boarded the train in Abuja terminal were supposed to arrive at their destination at about 8 pm or thereabout.
However, around 9:30 pm, it was observed that the passengers were still at the train before a ‘relief locomotive’ arrived from Abuja to convey the passengers to the arrival terminal.
However, some passengers who could not stand the two-hour delay trekked down to the station mostly with the aid of torchlight as it was dark.
Although the National Railway Corporation, NRC, has not yet reacted to the development, an insider in the corporation confirmed the development to News Digest, saying that it was not a big deal as it was normal for trains to break down.
It could be recalled that the train had to carry 600 passengers on Sunday, September 9, 2018, had stopped in a bush near Rijana in Kaduna State after crushing over 50 cows.
The area is notorious for kidnapping and armed robbery.
