As the election season approaches and in light of the lamentable performance of the current APC government, the level of frustration among the populace is palpable, and one is justified in asserting that the act of governance has been relegated to a secondary status. The focus has shifted towards political maneuvering and power plays rather than addressing the pressing issues afflicting the nation. The political landscape in Nigeria is indeed saturated with activities—coalition movements and the ruling party’s relentless endeavor to stifle the opposition through unsavory tactics. These tactics encompass smear campaigns, intimidation, and manipulation of electoral processes to maintain their grip on power.
There exists an urgent necessity to evaluate the situation with the aim of strategically formulating a robust platform to challenge the ruling party. This entails meticulous planning, coordination, and mobilization of resources to mount a credible opposition. It is imperative to consider the aspirations of the populace and channel their patriotic fervor towards a common goal of fostering positive change in the country. By uniting under a shared vision, the opposition can harness the collective energy and enthusiasm of the people to advance their agenda.
To actualize this vision, a deliberate emphasis must be placed on cultivating trust among stakeholders and devising comprehensive strategies to surmount potential impediments that may arise. Building trust is essential in any coalition movement, as it ensures cohesion and unity among diverse groups with varying interests. By engaging in open dialogue, addressing concerns, and fostering a sense of inclusivity, the coalition can fortify its foundation and establish a solid framework for future actions.

Within the coalition movement, two predominant schools of thought exist, each with its advocates articulating compelling rationales. The first faction advocates for the adoption of an established political party by the opposition as a platform for the impending election. This approach offers a pre-existing structure that can expedite and streamline the path to participation in the electoral process. Conversely, the faction championing the formation of a new political party contends that ownership and control cannot be monopolized by any individual once registered.
Proponents of adopting an existing party argue that the structural framework is readily accessible, thereby circumventing the arduous process of seeking registration, particularly in light of time constraints. They further contend that the registration of the APC transpired under a different set of circumstances, and should not be used as a yardstick. In essence, situations dictate the course of action to be adopted at any given moment.

Conversely, advocates for the establishment of a new party assert that, once registered, ownership cannot be monopolized by any individual. However, since there exists an “if,”it is prudent to invoke the Hausa proverb that states, “kwai a baka yafi kaza a akurki”(loosely translated as a bird in hand is worth two in the bush). Nevertheless, both factions are concurrently pursuing their respective agendas with the understanding that whichever path proves more viable will be embraced.
As is customary in the quest for power, a plethora of political theatrics are unleashed to confuse, sway, or intimidate adversaries into submission. Therefore, for the coalition to flourish, several critical considerations must be meticulously addressed. Firstly, it is imperative to navigate the intricacies inherent in internal power dynamics while preserving a sense of unity. This can be achieved through the establishment of transparent communication channels and consensus-building processes that identify shared grievances and aspirations, serving as a foundation for unity.
Moreover, the cultivation of trust and solidarity, contingent upon inclusive dialogues, equitable power distribution, and a steadfast commitment to transparency and accountability, must be vigorously promoted. These elements are vital for nurturing a cohesive and resilient coalition capable of withstanding internal power struggles, external opposition, and effectively sustaining its momentum.
Undoubtedly, challenges of this magnitude are formidable and may at times appear insurmountable. Yet, it is paramount to remain resolute in the pursuit of what is just, as the adage suggests, “nothing good comes easy.”Engaging with a ruling party will not be a facile endeavor, for the resources at their disposal will be marshaled to ensure their continued dominance. The landscape is rife with complexities, including defections, verbal skirmishes, internal discord among opposition factions, and strategic maneuvers aimed at undermining the coalition.
Political theatrics, character assassination, the presence of fifth columnists, and an array of other challenges will invariably characterize this type of movement. Thus, let us remain focused and committed while bracing for the most daunting scenarios. We must bear in mind that any movement devoid of such challenges poses no real threat to the ruling party. Therefore, the government’s response should serve to embolden rather than discourage. The commitment to uphold the collective vision and advance towards a common objective must remain unwavering despite these obstacles. Only through concerted efforts, resilience, and steadfast determination can the coalition navigate the turbulent waters ahead and emerge fortified on the other side.
