PDP bows to pressure, reinstates Wike’s ally, Anyanwu as national secretary

Story Zara Ahmed

The National Leadership of the Peoples Democratic has reversed its earlier stance on the status of Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The Party has reinstated him as the National Secretary.

The National Executive Committee has also suspended its meeting scheduled for June 30, 2025 following a meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The PDP disclosed this at a Press Conference at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, described the decision as difficult, but widely accepted among key stakeholders.

Damagum was flanked by the Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed who is, also, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other party stakeholders. He announced that the party has resolved to reintegrate Anyanwu into the National Working Committee.

He stated: “Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been reinstated in the NWC. It was a difficult decision, and it was accepted by many members of the party led by the organs of the party.

“We will have an expanded Caucus. At the next Caucus, we will take a decision leading to a proper NEC.

“Anyanwu is resuming as the National Secretary, that is why I said it was a critical decision. Like INEC said, they don’t have our notice, so what we will have on June 30th is an expanded Caucus.”

Anyanwu is an ally of Nyesom Wike, Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. Wike had insisted from day one that Anyanwu must remain as the National Secretary till the end of his tenure.
