Peter Obi declares 2027 Presidential bid, promises One-Term reform agenda
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, has officially announced his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, pledging to transform Nigeria’s development trajectory within a single four-year term if elected.
Speaking during a media interaction, Obi stated that he would not seek re-election after one term, emphasizing that his mission was to “stabilise, reform, and rebuild Nigeria for future generations.”

The former Anambra State governor outlined his priorities to include restoring national security, revitalising education, reducing poverty, and strengthening the economy to enhance productivity. “Nigeria cannot continue on the same path and expect a different result. My goal is to deliver measurable progress within four years and hand over a more stable, secure, and united country,” he said.
Obi also vowed to drastically cut the cost of governance and intensify the fight against corruption from his first day in office. He explained that his decision to serve only one term was driven by a personal commitment to integrity, inclusion, and national balance.
“Power rotation and inclusion are vital for stability. I believe that in four years, we can put Nigeria back on track and establish a foundation for lasting progress,” he added.

On political alliances, Obi confirmed that talks were ongoing with like-minded politicians and parties to form a broad coalition ahead of 2027 but dismissed rumours suggesting he might accept a running mate position. “I am open to partnerships that prioritise Nigeria’s interest, but I am not in talks to be anyone’s deputy. What matters is building a united front to rescue this nation,” he clarified.
He further assured Nigerians that within two years of his administration, the country would witness tangible improvements in governance and public trust. “We will restore hope, cut waste, and show Nigerians that leadership can be about service, not self,” he said.
Obi’s declaration has sparked widespread political debate, with supporters describing his one-term pledge as a bold and selfless commitment, while critics question whether four years would be enough to tackle Nigeria’s deep-rooted challenges.
