PMB commissions Kano-Maiduiguri road, says project proves Nigeria’s engineering capacity

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday officially commissioned the Kano-Maiduiguri road, Section III (Azare-Postikum) which connects several communities in Bauchi and Yobe state respectively following its completion.
This brings to four in the last two weeks the number of roads commissioned across the country in line with the ongoing “Season of Project Commissioning” the President declared while commissioning the 304 kilometre Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega-Kontagora-Makera Road, on Thursday, November 25, 2021, following which the 24 kilometre Vandeikya-Obudu Cattle Ranch Road (Phases I and II) was officially opened to traffic Monday, November 29, 2021, and then the Nnewe-Oduma-Uburu Road on Monday, 29th November, 2021.

Represented by Minister for State Trade and Investment Amb Maryam Yalwaji Katagum who hails from that part of the country, the Nigerian President said, “The road is also a story of the capacity of our people.
“The patriotic Nigerians who were employed directly to build this road, the scores of suppliers employed indirectly who are responsible for providing the machines utilized in the construction.
“These are not only nation builders to whom we offer our salutations, they are the heart of the Nigerian economy, the micro, small and medium enterprises that drive our economic growth.
This road is also a statement of economic efficiency and ease of doing business.”
He warned against all forms of misuse of the road, saying, “This road has been built to the highest quality of design and workmanship and if it is well used and not abused, it should last for the designed service life.”
Speaking earlier, Minister of Works and Housing Mr Babatunde Fashola reiterated that the road projects across the nation, “represent a major investment in transport infrastructure which is a commitment of the Buhari administration as a driver for economic growth and prosperity.”
According to Fashola who was represented by the Director, Highway, North East Zone, Engr Celestine Shawuru, “They are visible and incontrovertible assets in proof of what Nigeria’s resources are invested in, from a combination of our earned resources, and borrowings.
Fashola, while acknowledging the impact of sukkuk funding in the infrastructure development of the country, revealed that the fund was currently contributing to the progress of work on 44 roads across Nigeria and would be commissioned as they are completed.
Those presents at the commissioning were the Emir of Katagum, HRH, Alhaji Umar Kabir Umar and the Deputy Governor of Bauchi state, Senator, Baba Tela.
