PMB commissions Shuwarin-Azare section of Kano-Maiduguri road, says project symbolises change

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday officially commissioned in Shuwarin, Jigawa State the Kano-Miduiguri Road, Section II (Shuwarin-Azare), which connects several communities in both states of Bauchi and Yobe, following its completion.
It is a SUKUK funded project and the commissioning is the fifth in the series since the President declared a “Season of Project Commissioning” three weeks ago.

Represented by the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, who hails from Jigawa State, the Nigerian President said, “The road is a story of economic efficiency and ease of doing business. The road symbolises change.”
In his speech, the President reiterated his caveat for road users to be responsible in the use of the road following the commissioning and handover so that it could last for the duration of period it has been designed to stay, noting that the design on which the road was constructed was of the highest quality.
Mentioning some of the rampant road abuse practices to include: “overloading of vehicles and trucks, undiscriminating parking of vehicles, especially heavy-duty ones, etc., the President enjoined Nigerians to avoid those practices that could aggravate the wear and tear on the roads, and also report persons found committing such offences.
“We must all do our best to avoid these practices, report them when they occur and act in a lawful manner to stop them,” he stated, reminding road users that the maximum driving speed on all federal highways in the country is 100kms.
Speaking earlier, Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, reiterated that the road projects across the nation, “represent a major investment in transport infrastructure which is a commitment of the Buhari administration as a driver for economic growth and prosperity.”
According to Fashola who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Housing, Babangida Hussaini, “They are visible and incontrovertible assets in proof of what Nigeria’s resources are invested in, from a combination of our earned resources, and borrowings.
Fashola, while acknowledging the impact of SUKUK funding in the infrastructure development of the country, revealed that the fund was currently contributing to the progress of work on 44 roads across Nigeria and would be commissioned as they are completed.
Speaking, the Jigawa State Governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, said the government and people of the state are full of appreciation to President Buhari for the various projects executed or being executed in the works and housing as well as sectors of the economy in the state.
Having mentioned the other federal government projects in the state, including those of other ministries, Abubakar said the president had done well in all sectors of the economy across all the states of the federation deserves nothing short of commendation from Nigerians.
“We have witnessed tremendous development in the last six years, all with the support of President Buhari,” he said.
The Emir of Dutse, Alh. Dr Nuhu Sanusi, who also expressed profound gratitude to the federal government on behalf of his people, however, said there are other projects in the state begging for attention, urging the Buhari government to consider attending to them to consolidate on the gains so far made in terms of infrastructure development.
Upon stopping to express his feeling about the road as the commissioning ceremony progressed, a passing motorist, who often plies the road, said about eight years ago, the road was a single lane before it was dualised and fixed, accidents were common occurrences, destroying lives which became reduced drastically following the completion of the project, “President Muhammadu Buhari is God sent,” he said.
And with his chariot from his farm, loaded with farm produce, a farmer in Shuwarin, the location of the commissioning ceremony, Bello Yau, commended the Federal Government of Nigeria, saying, “To say we are extremely happy over this road is an understatement. We thank the government of President Muhammadu Buhari for this project.”
A student of GDSS, Adamu Haladu, said “We have challenges from Skiyawa endpoint of the road but since the upgrade of the road, respite has come to our ways. We thank the people in government.”
A resident in one of the communities from Bakin Kasuwa Old Market in Hadejia local government area who came to witness the event expressed his opinion thus, “I came here to express my feeling about the road, to support the commissioning event with my Public Address System. The work done here is a very good one. God bless the federal government, the contractors and all those who were part of the project in one way or the other for the quality job.”
