SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer in Niger State, announced this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Minna on 13th August.

Abiodun said that on August 9, the GRA Police Division received information that a lifeless body of about a day old child was found on a farmland in Tayi village within Minna.

The PPRO said that the incident was under investigation with the aid of the community to arrest the perpetrator of the dastardly act.

Meanwhile, a resident of the area who pleaded anonymity told newsmen that the baby must have been abandoned by a woman who got pregnant out of wedlock.

“The person must have abandoned the baby while still alive, but due to severe exposure to cold, the baby died, this is the first time we are seeing this type of occurrence in our area,” he said.
