Police in Ogun arrest 49-year-old man for raping own daughter

Story from Fatima GIMBA, Abuja

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command on Monday arrested a 49-year-old man, Ubong Williams Akpan, for raping his 12-year-old daughter.

In a statement by DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police spokesman in Abeokuta, he revealed that the suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Itele Ota divisional headquarters by the victim who reported that her father has been abusing her sexually since she was seven-year-old.

The 12-year-old stated that the harassment had been going on for the past five years, and that she could no longer bear it, so she decided to report the case to the police.
