Police officer fatally shoots innocent man, CP orders probe
A devastating incident unfolded in the Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State on June 23, 2024, as a police officer reportedly shot and killed an innocent man.
The victim, identified as Chinedu Edeh, met his untimely demise at Echara Road, according to statements from local authorities.
Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident, revealing that Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has swiftly ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
In an official statement released on Thursday, CP Uzuegbu directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID to conduct a thorough and expedient inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

“The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police to conduct a full-scale investigation to unravel the circumstances of the alleged shooting and murder of one Chinedu Edeh by a police officer at Echara Road, Nsukka,” the statement read.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Chinedu Edeh, CP Uzuegbu assured the public that necessary actions would be taken to ensure justice prevails in this tragic incident.
The victim’s body has been taken to the hospital, where medical professionals confirmed his death. His remains were subsequently deposited in the mortuary pending autopsy.
“We urge calm from the community as we investigate this matter thoroughly,” emphasized CP Uzuegbu, urging the public to trust in the process of justice.
