Police repel attack in Ebonyi by IPOB/ESN members, kill 1

Operatives of the Ebonyi State Police Command have reportedly repelled an attack by some members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.

The gunmen were said to have attacked police officers who were attached to a construction company working in the Omega Noyo area of the local government.

But the attack was not successful after they were engaged in a gun duel which resulted to the death of one of the gunmen while a police officer was injured and he is said to be in critical condition at a hospital.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident but noted she was yet to get full details of what happened.

She reiterated that the police were, however, on the trail of the attackers and expressed hope that they will soon be apprehended.

The attack happened the same another set of group attacked and killed a member of the Ebubeagu security outfit in the state.

The security situation in the South-East has deteriorated of recent as security agencies, facilities and high-profile personalities have come under regular attacks.
