Popular Kannywood actress Wasila Isma’il dies at 46 after long illness

Popular Kannywood actress, Wasila Isma’il, is dead.

The veteran Hausa film star reportedly died at the age of 46 after a prolonged illness at the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria (FOMWAN) Hospital in Kaduna State.

Her death was confirmed by her former husband, Al-Amin Chiroma, on Sunday, throwing the Kannywood industry and fans into mourning.

Born in Kaduna State, Wasila was regarded as one of the notable figures in the Hausa movie industry and became widely known for her roles in several successful Kannywood productions.

She began her acting career in 1998 with the movie “Jinin Masoya” before gaining widespread recognition in 1999 after starring in the film “Wasila,” directed by Yakubu Lere alongside veteran actor Ali Nuhu.

The movie later became one of the productions that established her popularity within the Hausa entertainment industry.

Aside from acting, the late actress was also said to have worked with Liberty Radio Kaduna during her career.

Following news of her death, colleagues, fans and stakeholders in the Kannywood industry took to social media to mourn the actress and pay tribute to her contributions to Hausa cinema.

She is survived by her children and other family members.
