President Tinubu approves constitutional amendment on retirement age of judicial officers

In the exercise of the powers vested in him under the 1999 Constitution as amended, President Bola Tinubu assented to a fresh amendment of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Thursday at the State House.

This significant development was conveyed in a press release by Abiodun Oladunjoye, the Director of Information.

President Tinubu has officially signed into law the “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Fifth Alteration) (No. 37), 2023,” as presented by the outgoing 9th National Assembly.

This amendment brings about uniformity in the retirement age and pension rights of judicial officers, along with addressing other related matters.

During the signing ceremony, President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary, upholding the rule of law, and empowering judicial officers to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
