President Tinubu arrives in China on state visit (Pictures)
President Bola Tinubu arrived in Beijing, China, for a significant state visit on September 1, 2024. His trip marks a key moment in strengthening Nigeria-China relations, focusing on economic collaboration and investment opportunities.
During his visit, President Tinubu will participate in the 9th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit, themed “Joining Hands to Advance Modernisation and Build High-Level China-Africa Community with Shared Future.” The forum is a pivotal platform for advancing Nigeria’s interests and partnerships with China.
The Nigerian leader will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and engage with top Chinese business leaders. The visit aims to boost economic ties and attract investment into Nigeria, particularly in sectors such as ICT, oil and gas, and infrastructure development.
Notably, President Tinubu plans to visit major Chinese firms, including Huawei Technologies and the China Railway and Construction Corporation. These meetings are expected to accelerate the completion of the Ibadan-Abuja segment of the Lagos-Kano rail project.
In addition, President Tinubu will engage with CEOs of ten leading Chinese corporations managing over $3 trillion in assets. These discussions are anticipated to enhance Nigeria’s economic prospects and technological advancements further.
The President was warmly received by several officials including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Minister of Works David Umahi, and Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, among others.
