Prince Harry and Meghan announce birth of daughter

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced the birth of their second child, a baby girl named Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

A statement confirming the happy news was released by a spokesperson for the couple today. It reads;
“It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world. Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m in a hospital in Santa Barbara, California.

”Both mother and baby are reportedly doing well’’.

However, in a message of thanks on the couple’s Archewell website, they said:

She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe.
“Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

Lili is named after Queen Elizabeth, Harry’s grandmother, “whose family nickname is Lilibet.” Her middle name ”Diana was chosen to honor Prince Harry’s late mother Diana, who died in a car crash in 1997 when he was 12 years old.

Baby Lili is a sister to the couple’s two-year-old son, Archie Harrison. She is the Queen’s 11th great-grandchild and is eighth in line to the British throne.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted his “many congratulations” to the couple.

Harry and Meghan were married in a lavish wedding at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, England, three years ago.

The couple stepped back from their roles as senior working royals last year, relinquishing their titles, they now live in Santa Barbara, California.
