Prioritise geospatial data for effective land mgt, economic devt – SGoF to state govts

Story from Abah ADAH, Abuja

The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGoF), Surveyor Abudulganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin has admonished state governors in Nigeria to appreciate the relevance of geospatial data to every facet of the economy and give serious attention to matters of surveying and geoinformatics for proper administration and management of the land which according to the chief surveyor “remains the source of the resources for genuine economic development”.

Adebomehin who gave the advice upon receiving a statement from Ondo State about the elevation of the Chief Executive Officer, Office of Ondo State Surveyor General (SG), Surveyor Semiyu Abiodun Adigun, to the status of the permanent secretary, commended Governor Arakurin Oluwaromi Akeredolu for the move, according to a statement signed by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF), Abu Michael.

Excited over the news of the elevation, Surveyor Adebomehin says Governor Akeredolu truly meant to develop the economy of the state, hence the elevation of the state SG to guarantee easy access to the governor as his Chief Adviser on Surveying and Mapping.

“State governments must give serious attention to matters of surveying and geoinformatics for proper administration and management of the land which remains the source of the resources for genuine economic development,” he said.

He stressed that surveying and geoinformatics products guarantee good decision making, effective planning and implementation of projects and other programmes of action for the attainment of good governance, enhanced security, economic growth and development.

He pledged the collaboration of the OSGoF with state governments for the provision of requisite geospatial information to accelerate the socio-economic development of states and the sustainable development of the country as a whole.

While congratulating Surveyor Adigun on his promotion, the Nigeria’s number one surveyor urged him to justify the confidence reposed in him.
