Prolonged Blackout: Boy, 11, invents non-fuel mini-generator in Borno

A talented 11-year-old Nigerian boy, Muhammad Bashir Kaumi, has created a mini-generator that doesn’t use fuel and can power household light bulbs in Borno State.

The JSS 1 student of Al-Ansar Academy said he used two capacitors, a wire, light bulbs, and a fan metal hook, among other items to fabricate his mini-generator. Bashir said he dreams of becoming an excellent electrical engineer one day, so as to tackle the power problems Nigeria has been battling for ages.

He said, “Since Maiduguri has been having electricity problems for over two years now, and my father cannot afford to install a solar, I decided to manufacture this generator that does not use petrol, and can power light bulbs,” he said.

Speaking to PRNigeria, Bashir’s mother, Malama Yakaka Kaumi, said her son started showing great interest in electronics and mechanical fabrications at the tender age of five, she said he was always eager to invent and repair electronic appliances.

“He wakes up every day and tells me that he wants to be a renowned electrical engineer that will be known across the world. He is passionate about setting up a big electrical engineering firm, and hopes to use it in solving the country’s power crisis”.

Speaking on how the boy’s creative talent can be harnessed, Bashir’s mother called on the Borno State Government, the federal government, relevant institutions, and non-governmental organisations to assist her son to achieve his dreams.
