Eden Hazard will miss Real Madrid’s Champions League clash against Manchester City on Wednesday after limping off during their defeat to Levante on Saturday.

The Belgian joined Madrid in the summer from Chelsea but has missed the majority of the season with an ankle issue.

In just his second game since returning from a three-month absence, Hazard limped off in the 67th minute to be replaced by Vinicius Junior.

Speaking after the game, Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane confirmed that the winger had suffered another injury to the same ankle area.

He said: “I think it’s a knock to the same area where he suffered his last injury and it does not look good.”

Madrid has confirmed that Hazard suffered a fractured ankle and will continue to be assessed during his recovery meaning he will definitely miss the clash against City.

Former Tottenham winger Gareth Bale could also be unavailable after missing the game against Levante through illness.

The defeat to Levante was Madrid’s first league loss since mid-October and comes at the worst possible time, with Barcelona next up after the City fixture.

Madrid held a commanding lead at the top of La Liga just a few weeks ago but will now enter the game two points behind their rivals.

Club captain Sergio Ramos said the Spanish side must improve.

“We’re annoyed,” the defender said.”The most decisive moment is arriving and we have to turn the page.

“We were leaders and now we’re second.

“Any mistake can leave you without a trophy.

“Then again, there were lots of things surrounding this game.

“But we lost this game, not the referee and not VAR.”
