Remi Tinubu awards ₦50m grant to female traders in Kaduna

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦50 million to support 1,000 women petty traders in Kaduna State.

The presentation was made through the wife of Kaduna State Governor, Hasfat Uba Sani, who also serves as the state coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

The symbolic cheque for the grant was presented by Senator Tinubu at the Umaru Yarádua Conference Centre on Monday, under the auspices of RHI.

In addition, Senator Tinubu launched the distribution of 10,000 professional kits to midwives across the North-Western states of Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara. These kits, which include 10,000 scrubs and 10,000 pairs of crocs, were donated by an anonymous global donor. The kits were handed over to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) for further distribution to midwives in the North-West zone.

Senator Tinubu explained that the kits were part of efforts to complement the ongoing Federal Government’s retraining program for 120,000 frontline health workers nationwide. She also assured that all six geopolitical zones would receive 10,000 scrubs and 10,000 pairs of crocs, to be distributed across states in each zone. The North-Central Zone had already received its allocation on January 29, 2025, during her three-day working visit to Kwara State. Kaduna State is the second stop, with the South-South Zone set to be the next beneficiary.

The First Lady emphasized that the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) recognizes the importance of equipping health workers with the right tools to complement their skills and compassion in serving others. She expressed her gratitude to the midwives for their continued dedication.

Since its inception in 2023, the Renewed Hope Initiative has implemented targeted programs in Agriculture, Economic Empowerment, Education, Health, and Social Investment to improve the lives of Nigerian families.

Governor Uba Sani also praised the First Lady’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerian women, particularly the vulnerable and underserved members of society, highlighting the importance of the donation of the professional kits to midwives.
