Remi Tinubu urges women to lead food security campaign

First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on women to take the lead in the campaign for food security in Nigeria.

At the State House Residence, she unveiled her vegetable garden, featuring spinach, water leaf, bitter leaf, ewedu, lemon grass, scent leaf, and okra, to inspire first-time women farmers.

Her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, stated that the First Lady’s garden aims to encourage participation in the “Every Home A Garden Competition.”

This initiative challenges women nationwide to start home gardens to contribute to food security. Tinubu emphasized that small individual efforts can collectively address food insufficiency.

“This little garden will be able to provide healthy vegetables enough for my household and I would definitely be able to let some of my staff have as well.

The solution to any problem lies in everyone contributing their own quota to getting that solution. As a leader, I must show an example and plant my own garden,” she said.

She urged women to plant gardens sufficient to feed their families and share with neighbors, enhancing communal living and supporting the Federal Government’s food security efforts.

Tinubu demonstrated her garden to Chioma Uzodinma, wife of the Imo State governor, and Aisha Matawale, wife of the Minister of State for Defence.

The “Every Home A Garden Competition” invites first-time women farmers to submit a 30-second video of their garden by September 25, 2024. The winner will receive N25 million.
