The South East/South-South Research Group (SESSRG)  has renewed calls for political stability and good governance stressing that ethnicity and the political blame-game is not the way forward for the Nigerian political economy.

In a recent study carried out by the research group under the leadership of Associate Professor, Love Arugu of the Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State on “The Challenges of Contemporary Nigerian Political Economy”, it was discovered that the socio-political malaise that characterised contemporary Nigeria such as insecurity is not abating due to the character of Nigerian politicians.

The politicians from different political divides see themselves as enemies and so refuse to close rank for the purpose of proffering worthwhile solutions to the crisis of the Nigerian political economy and instead resort to blame-game and unnecessary point-counterpoint based on party cleavages.

The research group then advised opposition party to rather engage the ruling party with constructive suggestions with the ruling party expected to have the political will to accept such suggestions if they are utilitarian stating that it is high time we understood the difference between politics and governance.
