Salah ruled out of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Inter Milan
Mohamed Salah has been left out of Liverpool’s squad for their Champions League trip to Inter Milan, with the club granting him a brief spell away from selection following his fiery post-match interview over the weekend.
Speaking after the draw with Leeds United, Salah said he had been “thrown under the bus” and suggested that tensions between him and head coach Arne Slot had escalated.
BBC Sport reports that the decision to omit him was made with Slot’s full approval and is viewed internally as the most appropriate response given the timing and nature of Salah’s public comments.
Despite the controversy, the 33-year-old trained with the squad on Monday morning, signalling that a return to the lineup remains possible. Liverpool have also opted against issuing any formal disciplinary measures.
Salah is expected to link up with Egypt next Monday ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, meaning he is also set to miss Liverpool’s Premier League fixture against Brighton on Saturday.
Liverpool’s 19-man travelling party flew to Milan on Monday afternoon, with Slot scheduled to speak to the media later in the day alongside goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

The forward’s exclusion reinforces Slot’s authority within the squad, though the club stopped short of harsher sanctions, such as a fine for his earlier comments following the Leeds match.
So far this season, Salah has scored five goals across the Premier League and Champions League and remains one of Liverpool’s most consistent attackers, with 250 goals in 420 appearances for the club. His 29 league goals last season were vital in Liverpool’s successful title-winning campaign during Slot’s debut year in charge.
