School Feeding Programme: FG spends N4.5 billion to feed 228,646 pupils in Gombe

National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) Dr Umar Bandir revealed that the Federal Government has spent N4.5 billion to feed 228,646 pupils in Gombe State since the school feeding programme started in 2016.

Dr Bandir disclosed this in Gombe while donating 225,000 branded plates to the state government for the school feeding programme.

The National coordinator who represented the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq, at the occasion said 1,234 schools in Gombe State had so far benefitted from the programme since it begin.

Bandir also said the Federal Government was considering the possibility of increasing funds for the programme for more children to benefit adding that it is among the four clusters of NSIP, designed to reduce poverty in the country.

The NSIP coordinator call on the state government to make judicious use of funds provided by the Federal Government for the programme, adding that it is their responsibility to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme.

While accepting the donation, the Secretary to Gombe State government, Abubakar Njodi, assured that the items will be used for the intended purpose.
