Senegal beat Egypt 1-0 to reach 2025 AFCON final

Senegal secured a 1–0 victory against Egypt on Wednesday to reach the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The only goal of the semi-final came in the 78th minute, when Sadio Mané capitalised on a loose ball outside the penalty area and fired a low shot into the net, settling a tight contest at the Grand Stade de Tanger in Tangier.

Despite dominating possession for long periods, Senegal struggled to break down Egypt’s well-organised defence until Mané’s decisive strike. Egypt, seven-time AFCON winners, failed to register significant attacking opportunities, underlining Senegal’s tactical discipline.

The result ends Egypt’s hopes of progressing to the final and leaves star forward Mohamed Salah still searching for his first AFCON title. Senegal, meanwhile, will now face either hosts Morocco or Nigeria in the championship match later this weekend.

The Teranga Lions’ appearance in the final marks another milestone for the team as they aim to capture their second continental crown in recent editions.
