Shehu of Borno urges military to clear terrorists from Guzamala, 2 other LGs

His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Umar-Ibn Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, the Shehu of Borno, has issued a call to the federal government and Nigerian military to eliminate the remaining Boko Haram terrorists in Guzamala, Kukawa, and Abadam LGAs.

The Shehu emphasised the urgency of this task in order to enable the millions of displaced people to return to their hometowns and resume normal lives.

The Shehu highlighted the necessity for the military and security forces to intensify their efforts in clearing out the terrorist remnants that continue to hold sway in these areas, especially in Guzamala Council where civilian presence has been absent for many years.

He stressed that reclaiming these communities is vital for restoring civil authority and ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents.

During his visit to the Government House in Maiduguri to pay respects to the Acting Governor, Dr. Umar Kadafur, the Shehu of Borno reiterated the importance of taking decisive action against the insurgents who still exert control over these regions.

This call echoes similar sentiments expressed by other prominent figures in the region, such as the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, who also emphasized the need to address the lingering threat posed by the terrorists during a recent event commemorating Democracy Day on June 12, 2024.

The Shehu while appreciating the sacrifices rendered by Nigerian troops towards restoration of peace in the North East, and the country as a whole, said, there is more than meets the eye, because, the inability of the military to restore civil authority in the aforementioned communities has denied parents and children to have access to their farmlands, or acquire quality Education, which he said, is dangerous to mankind and sustainable development.

In his words: I am here with my people to congratulate Government and the people of Borno for observing a peaceful and successful Eid El-Kabir 2024.

“I commend the federal government and the security agencies, and more importantly, Governor Babagana Zulum for their untiring efforts in the fight against Boko Haram Terrorists.

“More so, let me use this opportunity to call on the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the military authority to clear remnants of Boko Haram Terrorists still occupying Guzamala local government headquarters, and other communities in Kukawa, Abadam council areas so that millions of displaced people would go back to their ancestral homes.

“While appreciating the sacrifices rendered by Nigerian troops towards restoration of peace in the North East, and the country as a whole, there is more than meets the eye, because, the inability of the military to restore civil authority in the aforementioned communities has denied parents and children have access to their farmlands, or acquire quality Education, which he said, is dangerous to mankind and sustainable development.”

He said already, a committee set up under the Chairmanship of the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Hon. Sugum Mai Mele, and the Multi National Joint Task Force, MNJTF are working round the clock to restore normalcy and relocate back displaced people of Guzamala to their ancestral homes, stressing that Government will expedite action to resettle all Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs back to their communities before the end of its tenure.
