Sokoto govt distances itself from planned nationwide protest
The Sokoto State Government has resolved not to participate in the upcoming national protest against bad governance. This decision was made during a stakeholders’ interactive session on Friday, attended by political, religious, and student union leaders, as well as labor leaders.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu announced that the participants unanimously agreed that the protest would be counterproductive. He expressed concern over the current economic hardship, inflation, and insecurity in the country, but highlighted the benefits his administration has introduced to mitigate these issues, such as timely salary payments, distribution of palliatives and fertilisers, and cash gifts during festive periods.

The state government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and expressed optimism that measures taken by President Bola Tinubu would soon alleviate the country’s challenges.
Representatives from various religious groups, labor unions, and student bodies assured the governor that their members would not participate in the protest, citing religious and cultural reasons.
The meeting also included the Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Goronyo, and the state leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aliyu Wamakko.
