South launches initiative against northern bandit

Southern states and security agencies have intensified efforts to combat the activities of bandits originating from northern Nigeria, following a rise in kidnappings, armed attacks, and cross-regional criminal operations.

Officials say coordinated security operations are being conducted along key transit routes and border areas to disrupt the movement of criminal gangs. The initiative also involves intelligence sharing between states, increased patrols, and collaboration with local vigilante groups to safeguard communities.

Authorities have warned that anyone found aiding or harbouring bandits will face severe penalties. The move reflects growing concern in southern regions over the spread of insecurity from northern areas and the urgent need to protect lives and property.
