Super Eagles: Janne Andersson set to be appointed new head coach
Swedish football tactician Janne Andersson is set to be officially named the new head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, according to reports from SCORENigeria. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to announce Andersson’s appointment later this week, following a two-month search for a successor to Finidi George, who recently vacated the position.
This appointment marks Andersson’s first professional venture into African football. The 61-year-old coach brings with him a wealth of experience from his seven-year tenure with the Swedish national team, where he served as head coach from 2016 to 2023.
Under his leadership, Sweden qualified for its first FIFA World Cup in 12 years in 2018, overcoming football giants Netherlands and Italy in the qualifiers.

As Andersson prepares to take charge of the Super Eagles, his focus will quickly shift to the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where Nigeria is scheduled to face Benin Republic and Rwanda next month.
