Super Eagles Star Umar Sadiq joins Valencia on loan deal

Spanish La Liga club Valencia has completed the signing of Nigerian forward Umar Sadiq on a loan deal, marking the first transfer of the Carlos Corberan managerial era.

The 27-year-old Super Eagles striker moves from Real Sociedad, where he struggled to make an impact following a severe injury in 2022 that disrupted his career shortly after joining the club. Despite making a return last season, Sadiq managed only three goals, leading Sociedad to deem him surplus to requirements.

Real Sociedad’s willingness to part ways with the Nigerian international opened the door for Valencia, who were keen to bolster their attack. With just 17 goals scored in 18 league games this season, the club needed reinforcements to improve their offensive capabilities.

The deal, finalised with the approval of Corberan, includes a €1 million loan fee and a purchase option set at less than €10 million. Sadiq will remain with Valencia until the end of the season, with the possibility of a permanent transfer during the summer.

This transfer marks a fresh start for Sadiq, whose career has been on the back foot since his unfortunate injury. For Valencia, the Nigerian striker represents a valuable addition, and Corberan will hope Sadiq’s arrival sparks a turnaround in the club’s fortunes.

Valencia fans will be eager to see how the Super Eagles star adapts to his new surroundings and whether he can make a significant impact in their push for better results this season.
