Super Falcons aim to secure Olympic Games spot from second round qualifiers

The Super Falcons, who have been conspicuously absent from the football event in the past three editions of the Olympic Games, will embark on their qualification journey starting from the second round of the Africa qualifying series.

This decision follows the qualification procedure released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), on Sunday afternoon, with the draw set to take place on Tuesday.

The top seven teams from the previous Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, held in Morocco, have received a bye into the next round.

The Super Falcons are ranked fourth among these top seven teams. The remaining top seven teams are South Africa, Morocco, Zambia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Tunisia, and Botswana.

In total, 25 countries have entered the competition, which will be played on a home and away basis.

The 18 teams not exempted in the first round will compete for a chance to join the top seven in the second round, resulting in a total of 16 teams.

From the second round, eight teams will advance to the third round, while another four teams will be eliminated.

The final four teams will then compete for the two African slots available for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The qualifying draw is scheduled to take place in Cairo at 10 a.m. Nigerian time.

The Super Falcons’ last qualification for the Olympic Games was 15 years ago at Beijing 2008.
