Suspected IPOB/ESN members kill top army official

A top army official, Major Churchill Orji, has been reportedly killed by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to an online platform, Ejegist, Orji, an Agulu native, was shot and killed on Saturday, August 20, at Azia/Ukpor in Ihiala Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra State.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact details of the killing were unknown.

However, the incident was confirmed by Anambra State broadcaster, Ugochukwu Afoekelu.

“Our brother Major Churchill Orji, you paid the price yesterday at Azia/Ukpor protecting our dear state from bandits and unidentified gunmen. Your efforts won’t ever be for nothing. Agulu mourns.” he posted on his Facebook on Sunday.

It was gathered that as a result of residents’ fears that soldiers will soon break into their homes and deal with them over the killing of the top Army officials hence there is panic in the neighbourhood where the incident occurred.

The Southeast region In recent years has been a beehive criminal activities ranging from murders, shootings, and arson attacks.

Many have blamed the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a security outfit of IPOB outlawed by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) for the violence but, the group have denied any involvement.

Some of their atrocities in the region have been several attacks and destructions of some of the offices belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and police stations as well killing of prominent personalities in the region.
