The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu has said that based on evidence presented, late Sylvester Oromoni Jr’s death was not as a result of bullying, nor was he forced to join a cult as widely alleged.
The CP stated this at a press conference on Friday while giving an update on the investigation into the cause of the death of the late student.

Odumosu said, “At the end of diligent investigation carried out so far, there is no evidence to establish a case of torture, bullying and forceful application of poisonous substance against the suspects. All the suspects denied the allegations of torture, bullying and administering of poisonous substance to the deceased.
“Allegation that the deceased was being forced to join a cult group was also not established as other students interviewed denied this.”
The public was stirred following the news of the death of the 12-year-old student which had gone viral on social media in November.
Perry Oromoni, the author of the post, who is also a cousin to Sylvester Oromoni, mentioned that some senior students of the school were responsible for the death of the deceased.
According to him, the students tortured Sylvester in his hostel because he refused to join a cult.
However, the said students have been cleared by a Lagos court alongside some staff of the school.
