The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded a $2.5 million research grant to Bose Afolabi, a professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Lagos. Ms Afolabi who is well known for her research and lectures on sickle cell pregnancy has an interest in maternal and fetal medicine, minimal access (laparoscopic) surgery and medical education.
