Mainz lose appeal, ordered to pay El Ghazi €1.5m Bundesliga side Mainz 05 have failed in their bid to overturn a court ruling that found the club guilty of unfairly dismissing former player Anwar El Ghazi. The 30-year-old forward was sacked on November 3, 2023, after he made social media posts about the Israel-Gaza conflict. Mainz had initially suspended him in October 2023, calling his pro-Palestinian post “unacceptable.” The club later reinstated him, saying he had shown “remorse” and issued a warning. But El Ghazi later posted that he did not “regret”...
