Nigeria emerges fifth-best English-speaking country in Africa

Nigeria emerges fifth-best English-speaking country in Africa Nigeria has been ranked the fifth-best English-speaking country in Africa in the 2025 Education First (EF) English Proficiency Index. The report, published by global education organisation EF and cited by PUNCH Online, evaluated English language skills in 123 countries and regions, drawing on data from more than 2.2 million test takers worldwide. The 2025 edition marked a milestone by assessing speaking and writing skills for the first time, using artificial intelligence developed by EF’s education technology division.
