Terrorist kingpin Turji in panic state — CDS
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has stated that wanted terrorist leader, Bello Turji, is currently in a state of panic due to the intensified military operations targeting terrorist groups in the North West.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, during the maiden Annual International Lecture in Abuja, General Musa explained that recent military successes, including the killing of notorious terrorist commander Halilu Buzu and other key figures, have deeply unsettled Turji and his gang.
Buzu, who was Turji’s superior, played a significant role in the terrorist network. With Buzu gone, Turji is now feeling the pressure as he knows that he is a primary target for security forces.
Musa said, “You can see from the action that he is taking. You will know that he is in a state of panic. He used to be emboldened to go and talk as if he is the only one in charge.
Now he knows he is not in charge. He knows it is a matter of time because Halilu Buzu, who was killed, was his master. So now that he knows his commander is gone, he knows he is next, and so all that he is doing now is mere noise-making.”

The CDS noted that Turji has crossed the line, and while military operations continue to make progress, more terrorists will be neutralised in the coming days.
General Musa acknowledged that the terrorism problem in the North West has persisted for so long because of underlying issues such as poverty, illiteracy, and the lack of effective governance in the region.
This combination has left many young people with little to no opportunities, making them vulnerable to recruitment by terrorist groups.
He explained that efforts are underway to secure Nigeria’s 1,500-kilometer border with Niger Republic and other neighbouring countries, which are often used by terrorists and criminals to move in and out of the country.
The CDS stressed the importance of securing these borders to limit the movement of terrorists and prevent their infiltration into Nigeria.
“So efforts are being made to ensure that we secure those borders to deny them the ability to move in,” General Musa added.
