Terrorists attack military checkpoint in Abuja

Heavily armed bandits reportedly exchanged fire with some men of the Nigerian military late night Thursday at a checkpoint in Zuma Rock Madalla, along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.

The incident was said to have caused gridlock in the area.

However, it was gathered that the personnel of the Nigerian Army have embarked on a clearance operation after the attack.

A military source who spoke to Punch News on the condition of anonymity, said, “The terrorists took control of the area for over 30 minutes and kept on shooting before heading towards the Kaduna axis of the expressway,”

Eyewitnesses alleged that soldiers from Zuma Barracks stormed the scene to take full control of the situation almost 30 minutes after the terrorists fled.

The source also said a patrol team of policemen later arrived at the scene.

Efforts to get the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, were not successful.

The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, didn’t also respond to calls.
