Terrorists kill Miyetti Allah Chairman in Katsina, abduct 2 wives, daughter

In a tragic attack, suspected terrorists have killed Alhaji Amadu Surajo, the Acting Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Katsina State. The attack also claimed the lives of three others and left several people injured.

The incident occurred late Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday at Mai Rana village in Kusada Local Government Area.

The assailants reportedly invaded the community, targeting Surajo’s residence. In addition to killing the acting MACBAN chairman, they abducted his two wives and one of his daughters, an undergraduate at a Nigerian university. However, sources confirmed that his first wife was later released by the abductors under undisclosed circumstances.

Before his untimely death, Alhaji Amadu Surajo served as the state secretary of MACBAN. His elevation to Acting Chairman followed the mysterious disappearance of the association’s former chairman and National Vice President, Munnir Lamido, in June 2024.

Lamido had vanished while traveling from Katsina to Kaduna, with his last known location being a restaurant stop in Zaria. His vehicle and phones were later found near Maraban Jos, but his whereabouts remain unknown to date.

Security forces have been deployed to Mai Rana village to investigate the incident and maintain peace in the area. Meanwhile, Surajo and the other victims are expected to be buried according to Islamic rites.

Despite Kusada Local Government Area not being a hotspot for security challenges, this attack has raised concerns about possible motivations beyond terrorism or banditry.

The Katsina State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
