Thugs stab university student, sparking fear in Gadau town

Story from Ahmad SAKA, Bauchi

Pandemonium broke out in Gadau, the headquarters of Itas Hadsu Local Government Area in Bauchi State, as a student of the state-owned Sa’adu Zungur University, located in the town, was stabbed, sustaining serious injuries to his hand.

The victim, Safiyanu Adamu, a Biochemistry student at the university, explained from his hospital bed that the incident occurred during a football match between the Green White Green House and GT House.

Safiyanu alleged that during the match, an individual named “Lado” went to their house and retrieved two knives, which he then used to stab him in the hand, causing the severe injury.

“Students and good Samaritans rushed to his aid, taking him to the hospital. However, they were instructed to bring a policeman, and only after they complied did he receive first aid treatment. Due to the severity of his hand injury, he was subsequently referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Azare,” Safiyanu stated.

Numerous students who spoke to journalists expressed their concerns about the escalating issue of thuggery and phone snatching in Gadau town. They urgently appealed to the government, security agencies, and school authorities to address these problems.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state police command, SP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, assured that he would contact the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area for further information on the incident.

A police officer in Itas Gadau mentioned that the police made concerted efforts to prevent the incident from escalating into violence. He confirmed that peace has been restored to the community and that everything has returned to normal.
