Tinubu off to Saudi Arabia on Sunday for joint Arab-Islamic summit

President Bola Tinubu will depart Nigeria on Sunday to attend the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The summit, which begins on Monday, November 11, 2024, will address key issues in the Middle East, particularly the ongoing Israel-Palestinian conflict.

Tinubu’s participation follows an invitation from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the Nigerian president will advocate for an immediate ceasefire and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Palestinian crisis. Nigeria will also emphasize the revival of the two-state solution as a path to lasting peace in the region.

The President will be accompanied by several high-ranking government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; and Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mohammed Mohammed.

“After the summit concludes, President Tinubu will return to Abuja”.
