Tinubu pledges Nigeria’s full support to Ghana’s new president

President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to John Mahama on his inauguration as President of Ghana, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to supporting its West African neighbor.

Mahama, who served as Ghana’s president from 2012 to early 2017, made a triumphant return to office after defeating Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a historic election. He won with over 50 percent of the vote, underscoring the deepening democratic values in the region, as noted by President Tinubu during the inauguration ceremony in Accra.

“I share a deep friendship with President John Mahama. My dear brother, I am here to work alongside you,” Tinubu remarked as a special guest at the event. “You can count on Nigeria’s full support and goodwill whenever needed. We are brothers and sisters, bound by a strong and unbreakable bond.”

Tinubu further expressed his admiration for Ghana’s democratic achievements, declaring, “Ghana has definitively answered the question of whether Africa is capable of democratic success and progress. The world must now recognize that African nations, including Ghana and Nigeria, have nothing to prove except to ourselves.”

In his tribute to Mahama, Tinubu praised the Ghanaian leader’s patriotism and vision. “President Mahama loves his country and its people deeply. He believes in Ghana’s mission, and his dedication to seeing it fulfilled is something no leader could ask more of.”

Concluding his remarks, Tinubu wished Mahama and his administration great success, saying, “May your leadership bring progress and prosperity to Ghana, and to the entire West African region.”

The warm and heartfelt exchanges at the inauguration highlight the strong and enduring friendship between Nigeria and Ghana, as well as their shared commitment to the advancement of democracy and regional stability in Africa.
