Tinubu sacks Atuma, nominates Emeka Nworgu as Chairman of South East Development Commission
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a sweeping overhaul of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), replacing Hon. Emeka Atuma with Emeka Nworgu as Chairman. The reorganisation also includes changes to several executive director roles and an expansion of the board to 16 members.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President emphasized his commitment to ensuring that the SEDC is equipped with experienced professionals to achieve its mandate of advancing development in the Southeast region.
Key Leadership Changes
Mark C. Okoye retains his position as Managing Director/CEO of the Commission. However, other executive roles witnessed significant changes:
Stanley Ohajuruka has been appointed Executive Director of Finance, replacing Anthony Ugbo.
Toby Okechukwu assumes the role of Executive Director of Projects, succeeding Obinna Obiekweihe.
Chief Sylvester Okonkwo takes over as Executive Director of Corporate Services, replacing Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja.
Additionally, Chidi Echeazu and Clifford Ogbede were nominated as executive directors without portfolios.

Focus on Regional Development
The President expressed his confidence in the newly reconstituted board, describing them as pioneers who bring a wealth of experience to the Commission. He tasked them with advancing the development of the Southeast region, which is central to the Commission’s purpose.
“All nominations are subject to Senate confirmation,” Onanuga noted, adding that the changes reflect the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and regional development.
With this reshuffle, Tinubu aims to strengthen the SEDC’s leadership, ensuring the Southeast region benefits from transformative development initiatives.
