Tinubu sued over failure to probe missing N57bn, others
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his failure to investigate the alleged disappearance of over N57 billion from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in 2021.
The case, filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday, also lists Attorney General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, as a respondent. SERAP seeks a court order compelling the president to mandate the Attorney General to work with anti-corruption agencies to investigate, prosecute, and recover the missing funds.
The allegations stem from the 2021 audited report by the Auditor-General of the Federation. According to the report, over N54 billion earmarked for the N-Power programme remains unaccounted for. Additionally, N2.6 billion allocated to the COVID-19 school feeding initiative was reportedly paid to contractors for projects that were never executed.

SERAP further highlighted other discrepancies, including:
N400 million intended for stipends to independent monitors.
N78 million allegedly spent on undocumented COVID-19 surveys.
N39.5 million in “personal donations” reimbursed to the minister.
The group argues that probing these funds will help combat corruption and alleviate Nigeria’s fiscal challenges. “Recovering these funds would send a strong message that impunity has no place in public service,” SERAP stated.
No date has been set for the hearing of the case.
